Types of Knee Replacement
Total Knee Replacement: Both sides of the knee joint are replaced with prosthetic components.
Partial Knee Replacement: Only one part of the knee is replaced, preserving as much of the patient’s natural knee structure as possible.
Revision Knee Replacement: A surgery to replace or repair a previous knee replacement that has worn out or failed.
Knee Replacement Procedure
1. Preoperative Planning:
A detailed assessment, including imaging studies, helps determine the severity of the knee damage and the appropriate treatment plan.
Dr. S. Manivannan will discuss the surgical approach and implant options.
2. Surgical Process:
The damaged cartilage and bone are removed and replaced with metal and plastic components.
The procedure is usually performed under general or regional anesthesia and lasts a few hours.
3. Recovery and Rehabilitation:
Early mobilization is encouraged post-surgery, and a personalized physical therapy program is started to restore knee function.
Pain management strategies are employed to ensure a comfortable recovery.
